RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Schwannomas are a group of well differentiated benign tumors originating from the Schwann cells of the peripheral nervous system. Their localization in the pelvis is very rare. Schwannomas with expansive growth can cause wide neurologic symptoms or oppression of pelvic organs. CASE REPORT: The authors present a case study of a 60-year-old woman with a large, symptomatic deep pelvic schwannoma. The patient underwent robotic-assisted surgery resulting in complete tumor extirpation. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful with a total of two hospitalization days. The diagnosis of a schwannoma was confirmed by histopathologic analysis. At 11-month follow-up surveillance the patient did not present any neurological deficit or other symptoms. CONCLUSION: Robotic-assisted surgery allows safe and effective surgical treatment in difficult-to-access anatomical areas. Magnetic resonance imaging is required for preoperative imaging of neurogenic tumors. Histological verification is not recommended in cases where evidence of a schwannoma is found. Multidisciplinary cooperation of a dedicated team experienced in minimally invasive pelvic surgery is necessary.

RESUMO

The spindle tree (Euonymus europaeus L.) is a much-branched deciduous shrub or small tree. Its fruit capsules contain seeds with remarkably high content of oil interesting for industry, especially the 3-acetyl-1,2-diacyl-sn-glycerols (AcDAG) synthesized by a specific acetyl-CoA diacylglycerol acetyltransferase. The distribution and amount of individual triacylglycerols (TAG) and especially acetyl-triacylglycerols (AcDAG) in Euonymus fruit have previously been assigned to specific tissues. Using anatomical and microscopical observations, we studied the fruit morphology, and for the first time, we identified a more detailed allocation of oil bodies in individual tissue structures. Thin layer chromatography separation of extracts from immature and mature fruits confirmed TAG and AcDAG as the most abundant lipid classes in both endosperm and embryo, followed by fatty acids and polar lipids. The abundance of fatty acids was further studied in the TAG and AcDAG fractions using gas chromatography. Data revealed particular FAs in both fractions allocated in tissue-specific manner and/or as indicators of maturation of E. europaeus seeds. While the abundance of cis-vaccenic-, linoleic as well as α-linolenic acids in the AcDAG structures generally drop with maturation in both embryo and endosperm, content of oleic acid increases. Abundance of cis-vaccenic acid in TAG was recorded in immature endosperm. For embryo, the abundance of stearic acid in AcDAG and oleic acid in TAG fraction was distinctive. Deeper understanding of underlying metabolic processes will be essential for targeted metabolic engineering and/or application for oilseed crops.

RESUMO

The events and changes of the last decade, appearance of new factors determining the character of professional activities of military doctors have become the cause of displace of some accents in organization of medical support of RF AF radiation and chemical security. The possibility to use chemical and radiation factors for military ends as well as wide spread of chemical substances and sources of ionizing radiation in human everyday activities during peacetime allow to confirm that protection of subject, society and state is closely connected with support of radiation and chemical security. Considerable widening of class of problems standing before medical service and their increased complexity make impossible medical support of radiation and chemical security of the RF AF staff with forces and means of specialists working only in one field (toxicologists-radiologists). Such complex problem requires the conduction of scientifically well-founded, effective measures based on the knowledge of specific effects of radiation and chemical factors on human body.

RESUMO

The efficiency of prophylactic intestinal sorbents use (algisorb and activated carbon) to prevent chronic toxic stress was investigated in 20 healthy volunteers (atomic submarine personnel) basing on evaluation of central nervous system functional state, hemodynamics, hepatic detoxicative ability and dynamics of trace elements in urine. It was revealed that intestinal sorbents administration in daily dose of 5 g during 20 days promotes gastrointestinal elimination of toxic compounds (cadmium, bismuth, chrome, molybdenum, lithium). It is accompanied with decrease in organism intoxication evidences: reduction in central nervous system excessive excitation, decrease in functional tension of cardiovascular system, recovery of hepatic detoxicative ability. Algisorb has an advantage over activated carbon that allows to recommend this drug in prophylaxis and arresting of chronic toxic stress in submariners both during interfield period and autonomic sailing.

RESUMO

Nowadays the military toxicology becomes a division of a science that is to solve both academic and applied problems for a medical support system development necessary for the troops chemical defence and security in peace and war. As a classroom discipline it is to train military medics for a wide circle of toxicological issues' solution in the future.

RESUMO

The circadian rhythm of ventricular fibrillation threshold (VFT) and its relation to the heart rate (HR) and the rectal temperature (RT) was studied in female Wistar rats. The animals were exposed to daily light-dark cycles of 12 h of light alternating with 12 h of darkness and were under pentobarbital anaesthesia (40 mg/kg i.p.). The experiments were performed on open chest animals and VFT was measured by direct stimulation of the myocardium. VFT in female rats showed a circadian rhythm with the acrophase -338 degrees (at 22.53 h), with the mesor 2.58 mA and the amplitude 0.33 mA. HR was not significantly changed during the experiments and no dependence was found between VFT and HR during the whole 24-hour period (r = 0.08). The acrophase of the circadian rhythm of HR (on -47 degrees, i.e. at 03.08 h) was shifted to the acrophase of VFT. The circadian rhythms of RT before the application of the anaesthetic agent and under general anaesthesia before the operative interventions had a very similar course with the nearly corresponding acrophases as the circadian rhythm of VFT. It is concluded that the electrical stability of the rat heart measured by VFT shows the significant circadian rhythm in a parallel with the circadian rhythm of RT and probably without dependence on the changes of HR.

RESUMO

Hemodynamic and respiratory changes were studied during embolization of the pulmonary arterial bed in 20 rabbits after pentobarbital anesthesia. Air was insufflated into the auricular vein in the amount necessary to induce circulatory and respiratory changes. Circulatory changes were manifested by decreased arterial blood pressure, increased blood pressure in the right atrium, and aortal and pulmonary blood flow reduced to zero. The respiratory rate was diminished. A series of deep inspirations was followed by apnoe and death of the animal. (Fig. 5, Ref. 9.)
